Day four - June 13, 2013
TucsonTemp: 79 - 108 degrees (beautiful in the morning)
Mileage: Just tooling around town
Desert Museum
It opened at 7:30, we got there about
8:30. Walked thru a cave (“It’s just like City Museum!!! ). We saw the javelina, coyote, prairie dogs (so
cute!), ocelot. This is more of an out
door animal sanctuary than a museum. We
followed paths around in the heat finding all sorts of animals. Seth didn’t eat enough breakfast and was
pooping out by 45 min into the museum. I
sneakily fed him a Nutragrain Bar near the coyotes, to get his blood sugar
up. He really needed to be eating and drinking more than he did.
Saguaro West Visitor center
Caruso’s
My
favorite restaurant. I love sitting out
back with wine and eating my Italian food.
As the morning wore on at Desert Museum I foresaw that going to a
restaurant would be a bad idea for all involved. Tired kids and yummy food don’t go
together. Brian ordered the food and brought
it back to Mike’s on the back of his bike. Meatballs, noodles with pesto,
noodles with red sauce, ravioli, meat and cheese cannelloni, chicken parm and
lasagna. Yes, we were feeding an army.
So delicious.
Gates Pass
After dinner we rested and rode over to
Gates Pass, the Important Hill of Tucson.
The sun was setting but we weren’t able to get a good look at it.
However, there are climbing hills. We
climbed up to one look out then all the boys went up to a second look out. Brian would allow Sullivan to scale up a rock
so he got mad and stomped down the hill. He said the walk was boring because he
wasn’t able to climb over anything.
Best parts
Sarah: Caruso’s –it has been 9 years since I have had that food!
Seth: Gates Pass – because we climbed.
Sullivan: The cave at the Desert Museum
Worst Parts
Brian: I wish the kids had more fun at Desert Museum.Sarah: Tweenager attitude while out to lunch with old playgroup moms - I think he was trying to show off for the other 10-11 yr old girls there.
Seth :The Visitor Center was boring.
Sullivan: Gates Pass – Dad wouldn’t let me climb anything.
