Another fun day and more adventures are waiting...get up,
get out the door and get going! We
picked up Brian’s cousin Deann and Jamie and his kids and drove down to Santa
Cruz to go sailing. We boarded the Chardonnay
II - a gigantic sailboat. Pizza, wine,
beer and pop were served. Wine, yes, red
wine. And I am wearing white pants and
we are on a sailboat that pitches (is that the right sailing word) to 30-45
degrees and there is a guy who wasn’t holding tight to his cup of red wine and
I was sitting right next to him and he spilled it on himself and the FRONT of
my white pants and somehow got it on the BACK of my sweatshirt. Yes, it was a run on sentence. The crew brought him, and me, a bottle of
Simple Green. I doused myself with
it. Now I have a green stain on my white
pants. They told me not to worry so I
didn’t. I washed the clothes when we got
back that night and amazingly there was no wine stain! The white pants are like new. Simple Green – go get it.
We slowly took the boat up the coast, past the boardwalk
(that looked soooo inviting) with the roller coasters and high swings and
twisty twirly rides. We didn’t get
there, but that’s ok – gotta leave something for us to do the next time we are
there. After pizza and drinks were served
the 2nd sail was raised and we took off like a bat out of Haiti! The spray was up and over the boat and we got
soaked MANY times. Nope, we didn't have towels, but the crew did and they
shared with us. Sullivan, who was mad
about wearing a life vest and was going to prove he was mad, didn’t smile once
on the boat, nor did he secure himself by jamming his foot against a railing. He sat criss cross applesauce saying he had
more traction that way. Little guy could
have slid right off. Seth was at the bow
(front, right?) of the boat and was lying down or standing up or sitting on low
side or on the high side – whatever he felt was more exciting at the time. We
were at such an angle one time my feet were inches from the water. It was great! My white pants which were
soaked in Simple Green were now soaked in water. Unfortunately, we had to return to port, get
off the boat and become landlubbers again. ![]() |

We drove around Santa Cruz and found some surfers. Went to the beach for a bit – air temp was
HOT but water temp was COLD. Had some Mexican
food dinner then back to San Jose for a dip in the pool.
Best Part
Sullivan – The sailboat and how steep it was
Seth – The sailboat because the boat was steep
Sarah – The boat ride – even with the wine and soaking
wet clothes
Worst Part
Sullivan – Not going to the boardwalk and having to wear
a life jacket
Seth – Not being able to go to the boardwalk
Sarah – Not being at the beach long enough – darn you
time! You have to keep ticking away.
